Amba Yoga:A Resource for Freedom & Flexibility For the past 20 plus years, Amba Yoga Center of Smithtown has become well known for focusing on its students’ individual needs and for excellence in yoga instruction.
After 21 years teaching in the original location as a center, post pandemic conditions influenced the teachers to go on to other ventures. In May of 2022, the original location was let go of and Lesa found a new home in a beautiful wholistic center on the west side of Smithtown.
Amba Yoga as a collective aimed not only provide intsruction to nuture better health but offer greater freedom. Lesa continues to do this now, without the distraction of running a studio with 4 different teachers.
The process is a simple one: first, teach freedom of movement.
But what follows is even more important: freedom of body, mind and spirit. With these expanded freedoms come new possibilities. There’s less restriction and more flexibility -- in our bodies and in our lives. From the way we move and breathe, to the way we relate to ourselves and to the world -- yoga affects it all, and for the better.
Yoga Instruction: Attention to Detail & Attention to You
Whether younger or older, all our students are encouraged to develop a new relationship with their physical abilities, and previous limitations, through the practice of yoga. More than a system of asanas, or select poses, yoga is really all about breath, balance, state of mind, and vitality.
The foundation at Amba is based on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar. This traditional form of hatha yoga is practiced with attention on alignment, form, and a deep engagement within each pose. Gentle yoga, Vinyasa flow yoga, Pranayama (breath control), and meditation are also taught here by outstanding instructors.
The classes are for experienced yoga students and for people who have never done yoga before. We promise that everyone is welcome to attend – and that everyone will be attended to.
